Backup & Disaster Recovery

Veeam backup and disaster recovery for South African organisations

Protect every workload - servers, Microsoft 365, Kubernetes and cloud - with immutable, ransomware-resilient backups and a recovery plan that is actually tested.

Last updated

In short

We design, run and test Veeam-powered backup and disaster recovery for South African organisations. That covers servers, Microsoft 365, Kubernetes and cloud workloads, with immutable, securely stored copies and recovery plans that are actually tested. Delivered remotely, with on-site help where needed.

The problem

Why this matters in South Africa

Ransomware remains the most common reason South African businesses lose data, and attackers now target the backups first. A backup that sits on the same network, with the same admin credentials, is not a recovery plan.

At the same time, POPIA expects you to keep personal information secure and available, and many boards now ask a simple question: how long would it take us to be trading again? Most teams can't answer it with confidence because failover has never been tested.

What we deliver

What's included in Backup & Disaster Recovery?

Veeam Backup & Replication architected for your RTO/RPO targets, sized correctly and hardened from day one.

Backup-as-a-Service

Managed offsite copies, securely stored and kept off your production network.

Disaster-Recovery-as-a-Service

Replicated workloads with documented, tested recovery time and recovery point objectives.

Microsoft 365 backup

Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams protected beyond Microsoft's short retention windows.

Immutable, ransomware-resilient storage

Hardened repositories and object-lock copies that can't be altered or deleted - even with stolen admin credentials.

Kubernetes & DR testing

Container backup with Veeam Kasten, plus a written DR plan and scheduled failover tests with reports for your auditors.

Ways to start

Typical engagements

1 to 2 weeks

Backup health check

A review of current backups, a test restore, an immutability check and a written gap report with estimated RTO/RPO.

4 to 8 weeks

Veeam deployment and DR build

Design and deployment, offsite and immutable copies, a first DR test and a recovery runbook.

Monthly

Managed backup and DR

Job monitoring, quarterly restore tests and regular reports.

Typical timeframes. Every scope is confirmed after a free consultation.

FAQ

Backup and disaster recovery South Africa: common questions

It depends on how much data you have, how long you keep it and how quickly you need to recover. We start with a backup health check, then quote in rand for the setup plus a monthly fee for managed backup.

RTO (recovery time objective) is how quickly a system must be running again after an incident. RPO (recovery point objective) is how much data, measured in time, you can afford to lose. Both shape how your backups and disaster recovery are designed.

Keep 3 copies of your data, on 2 different types of storage, with 1 copy offsite, 1 copy offline or immutable, and 0 errors when you test restores. It's the current benchmark for ransomware-resilient backup.

If you have a clean, immutable or offline backup, recovery is usually possible. Attackers now go after backups first, so copies that can't be changed or deleted, plus regular restore tests, make all the difference.

Yes. Microsoft keeps the service running, but deleted items can only be recovered for limited periods, such as 93 days for SharePoint and OneDrive files. A separate backup lets you restore older data and recover from ransomware. Read more in Does Microsoft 365 back up your data?

Yes, if it's set up properly. Backups are copies of personal information, so they need encryption, access controls and sensible retention. Keeping them in South Africa also avoids cross-border transfer questions under section 72.

Yes. Big Data SA designs, deploys and manages Veeam solutions, from a single site to multi-site DR.

Yes. Offsite and DR copies can be securely stored in South African cloud regions so data does not leave the country.
