AI consulting South Africa: common questions

Yes. A common approach is retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), where an AI assistant answers questions from your own documents without training a public model on them. Access controls, logging and POPIA guardrails are set up from the start.

Yes, as long as you follow POPIA's conditions, including a lawful reason for processing, security safeguards and transparency. Section 71 also limits decisions made solely by automated processing that have legal consequences for people or affect them to a substantial degree.

Not a dedicated one yet, as of 2026. Government published a National AI Policy Framework in 2024, and existing laws such as POPIA, along with sector regulations, already apply to how AI is used.

Costs vary a lot, so we start small. An AI readiness assessment (2 to 3 weeks) identifies the best use cases, and a focused pilot (6 to 8 weeks) proves the value before you invest in a full rollout.

AI agents are AI systems that can take actions, such as updating records or sending messages, not just answer questions. They can save real time on repetitive work, but they need clean data, clear permissions and human oversight. Start with low-risk, well-defined tasks.
